The authors performed functional characterization of proteins that interact with the Hepatitis C virus (HCV) nonstructural protein N55A, a key therapeutic target to the HCV complex. Studies utilizing RNA interference mediated gene knockdown revealed off-target inhibitory effects on virus replication suggesting stricter controls for RNAi studies are needed to ensure more reliable results.
